Parliamentary and political
Social Enterprise UK has been successful in ensuring that the social enterprise agenda is supported by all of the main political parties. We work hard to influence the positions of these political parties, in order to ensure that social enterprise is understood and supported regardless of who is in power. This work includes attending party conferences, influencing election manifestos and working with think tanks across the political spectrum.
Political work in 2011
Social Enterprise Bill
In July 2010, Chris White MP tabled a Private Members' Bill that calls for all public sector commissioning to factor in social value. This was debated in parliament on the 19th November 2010 and the House of Commons voted for the Bill to be sent to a Public Bill Committee that will scrutinise the Bill clause by clause. Social Enterprise UK is working closely with Chris White's office to support the bill. For more information on the bill, click here.
