In Chris White MP's words

During the Public Bill Committee debate on the 19th October, in his opening remarks Chris White MP said, "I thank Social Enterprise UK for its assistance throughout".

Why this Bill matters

The Government is the largest buyer of goods and services in the UK. It has immense buying power, spending £236 billion a year.

The Public Services (Social Enterprise and Social Value) Bill proposes that this spending should be done in a way that provides social value, so communities benefit from public spending. This could mean billions more being spent with social enterprises rather than private businesses, and a growth in the UK’s social enterprise sector.

Social Enterprise UK is compiling a petition to be presented when the Bill reaches Parliament which you can sign below. Right now the Bill is about to enter the Report Stages and we have produced a template letter for you to use to lobby the Commons Committee who are currently working on the Bill. If you would like to write to one or more of the MPs on the committee please click here.

I want public spending to be done in the public interest. Spending decisions should take into account how much social value a purchase creates. I support the Public Services (Social Enterprise and Social Value ) Bill.
