Social Franchising
Social Franchising Workshops
To provide practical help to social enterprises wishing to explore their franchise potential, Social Enterprise UK has teamed up with School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) and CAN to devise a new social franchising programme for organisations looking to replicate their work. Participants will be introduced to a wide range of established and successful social franchisors working in the private and third sectors to understand and overcome the challenges of growing and replicating a social enterprise.
The School for Social Entrepreneurs are running three Social Franchising Workshops across the country in October and November, with prices starting from £50 for social enterprises.
Liverpool - 25 October 2011
Suffolk - 8 November 2011
London - 21 November 2011
The Social Franchising Workshop in Liverpool was held on October 25th at SSE Liverpool. Speakers included Alastair Wilson, SSE, and Colin Crooks, Green-Works. Here's what some of the delegates had to say about the day:
"Gained a more in depth understanding of social franchising, especially comparisons with commercial franchising. Enjoyed getting practical experience that can translate into opportunities..."
"Great delivery, advice and use of real life case studies. Very relevant."
"Real, authentic, clear, insightful. Loved it."

Social Franchising: A Guide for Franchisees

Social Franchising: A Guide for Franchisees is our latest manual which provides a general introduction to social franchising from the perspective of the franchisee; giving practical advice on how to decide if franchising is the right course of action, on selecting a franchise, and on building a successful franchise relationship.
The manual outlines the ten steps to social franchising for the franchisee - in the commercial world franchisees are most often individuals, but in social franchising they are commonly organisations. The guide provides social enterprises with tailored, practical tools to make it easier to assess whether, when and how to take on a franchise, including a simple readiness tool, a template franchise agreement and advice on how to set franchise fees.
The manual also features four unique case studies describing the journeys taken by real-life social franchisees, all with various degrees of experience.

The Social Franchising Manual

The Social Franchising Manual follows on from the 'Growing social enterprise' research findings, providing a how-to guide which includes a general introduction to social franchising - the use of a commercial franchising approach to replicate and share proven organisational models for greater social impact - and practical advice on how to franchise a social enterprise. It is primarily aimed at those thinking of franchising their organisational model (potential franchisors) but will be of use and relevance to a broader audience, including individuals who want to set up a franchise of an existing, successful social enterprise.
The manual contains practical tools and resources to assist social enterprises in assessing how, why, and when to franchise, including: a simple readiness tool, key elements of a social franchise, information on operations manuals, franchise fees and franchisee selection, a template franchise agreement, FAQs, further information on support, training and advice, and six case studies designed to provide real-life examples of social franchising.
