Brighter Future Workshop takes home top prize at Awards
The Social Enterprise Awards gave out prizes last night to the best social enterprises in the UK, including Brighter Future Workshop, Global Ethics, Pack-IT, Bikeworks, and Holbrook Centre for Autism.

Coalition appoints three new Board members
The Coalition has now appointed the final three members to its Board. The new additions will join the six members elected in September and, along with two executive directors from the Coalition, make up the new Board of 12.
Shortlists for the national heats of the Social Enterprise Awards unveiled
The Social Enterprise Coalition and its partners in the nations have now unveiled the shortlists for the Social Enterprise Awards 2009. Each nation will crown winners in three different categories who will then go on to compete for the UK wide prizes.

Coalition response on delivering secure low carbon electricity
The Coalition has now published a response to the consultation on delivering secure low carbon electricity and submitted it to the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
Liberal Democrats and social enterprises connect over breakfast
On 27 October, the Social Enterprise Coalition and the LGA Liberal Democrats co-hosted a breakfast meeting in Westminster. Amongst the attendees at the event was Shadow Chancellor Vince Cable MP.

Schools in England which are running their own social enterprise have until TODAY, Monday 26th October to apply to win in the Social Enterprise Awards.
BAME strategy launched
A new strategy to encourage Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities into social enterprise was launched on October 22 at an event in London for BAME female entrepreneurs.

Response to the social investment wholesale bank
The Coalition stresses the need for a wholesaler but says that it needs to be independent, risk-taking and flexible, and that eligibilty should reflect the diversity of social enterprise.

Survey finds greater diversity and more equality in social entrepreneurship in the UK
New research released today shows that Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities have higher levels of social entrepreneurship than the White community.
